Are a quilter?

Our friends Padsworth, DragonDrop and Snoodles at Lilly Pad Quilting are asking if I can prove I am a quilter. They are having a Linky party and giveaway. They are calling it a

Welcome to the home of a quilter. As we approach the home, we see that it is decorated for Halloween, with Quilts.

In the side windows are Patch Abilities.  
These were a Block of the month  program.

Witch, Ghost Black Cat and Bat ( he is hiding in the shadows). We are so thankful for the rain, but it makes taking photos outside harder. Sorry about the glare!


Mr. Bones is here to welcome us and conduct a tour

  Welcome, Come on in! Here is my friend Miss Witch. She is a Happy Hollow Stick witch.

She is standing beside the Quilt box. As you can see it is almost full!

Hanging above the quilt box is quilt made from a panel. I do not remember when it was made.

Around the corner is quilt that I bought at a quilt shop that was going out of business.  It was just the top and she quilted it.

On the work table (yes it is in the living room) is another quilt that I bought at a sample at my local Bernina store. It usually has a kitty on it.

HI! Max.  He is new and not so sure about being on the table.

  Also on the table are Mr. Bones two haunted homes.  The first one is OESD free standing lace and the other is a miniature I made from a kit.

   Above the hall door is a welcome banner .

Above the kitchen door are three happy jack-o-lanterns.

On into the kitchen (we do not have a conventional home, rooms are used for things other that the original purpose) you fine the sewing machine and sewing table.   Here are several projects that I have completed and some waiting in the wings.

The witches hat is made Primitive Gatherings twister tool.
The Grim Ripper was a free pattern from Fons and Porter.  THere are a couple of other projects there, too.

On the end of the table is another twister quilt, Spiders Up My Skirt from Bewitched Threads.  I bought this pre-cut kit while on the Quilt Across Texas shop hop.  It is ready for borders.

On top of the thread storage is another Patch Abilities with a table top stand.  This was a block of the month and I did two years of this size.

Down the hall we have a bedroom that is being used as storage.  There is a flannel batik quilt on it under the boxes.

 The next room is the quilting room.  It has the frame and machine and a rack to hang quilts on.

Across the hall is the master bedroom.  Here the walls are covered.  First we have three more Patch Abilities BOM.

Next there is yet another Twister quilt, this time a jack-o-lantern.

The next quilt was a challenge quilt from Quilting Bee in Cache, OK.. We all started out with 5 fabrics and could add any others that we needed.  One was a large over all print that I fussy cut and framed.

 On the bed, is an over-sized king made from hand dyed batik flannel. it is very warm and large.  I think it stretches with use!

On the foot  bed is a small quilt.  It was a Walmart pattern and fabric.  The kitties sleep on the back of it.  They have never cared about the front!

Now, back down the hall to the official sewing room.  Is is a mess, so please do not look closely.

On ironing board, is Haunted Halloween sampler.  This was a BOM from the Old Craft Store in   Carrollton, TX .  We just completed the last block in September.

This is a close up of the center. 

On the cutting board (covering the mess) is a three yard quilt I got at the Plano Quilt show.

Many of the boxes in this room have finished quilt tops.  Some have finished quilts and the drawer units hold fabric and kits.

Dramatic Deco Quilt

I started on this project last fall and decided it needed to be finished.  All we did last year was the fussy cutting.

These are the fabrics.  They do not show up well in this photo.   You can see the true colors here.

 The zig zag fabric was fussy cut.  This block had 14 pieces and I made 24 blocks.

 These two blocks were fussy cut and paper pieced.  We used Nifty Notions Jigsaw Foundation sheets.  It is light weight and you can see through it so that you can center your fabric and you do not have to remove it.  There were 14 purple and 24 black blocks.

The camera sis not like this fabric.  It is very purple and not blue!  There were 7 of these quarter square blocks.

 I have it laid out on the quilt wall.  I forgot to rotate the photo and again the camera did not capture the colors of the fabric. It is all together now waiting for borders.

 The stripe is a fussy cut mitered inner border, and the floral is the outer border.

I hope to have the borders on tomorrow.

Weekend project

On Thursday I had been with out a project for a couple of days. So I pulled out Mum's Secret Garden from Northcott, designed by Cara Gulati.  I used Norcott's fabric group  Mum's the Word.

The center panel is 5 1/2 inch strips and 2 inch strips.  Then it has a a narrow, a wide and a narrow border.  That was the easy cut and sewing part.   The last border is pieces triangles and diamond shapes.  They are all cut using templates and do not appear symmetrical.  We cut all the pieces Thursday evening.   I put it together on Friday except for the top and bottom pieced border which I completed this evening.  

 

There is so much gold in the fabric, it does not show the colors well!

All it needs is a back and quilting. And I have no idea how I will quilt it.

This is a charm pack, half yards for borders and sashing and the Dora Pattern from Me and My Sister Designs.  All I had to add was Valentine prints binding and backing which happened to be on sale  This was a fun and quick  Valentines project.  Thank you Dee!

I had enough charm squares left to make a second project.   This Scrappy Hearts was a project in the Old Craft Store's monthly newsletter.  This is a local Dallas area quilt shop. I added borders backing and backing, again all on sale!

Table Runners part 1

Now that Christmas is over, I can show the table runner and coasters I made for my Daughter in law.   They like red white and blue and Texas prints.

These are the 11 fabrics I started  with.  I used  Folded Table Runner by DJ Richardson Design and it is all folded triangles to create the table runner.

I also made a coasters the same fabrics.

I used a different fabric on the back of the coasters.

As you can see the front of the coasters are slightly different but using the same fabrics as the table runner.   I used Insul-bright from the Warm and Natural Company so that they can use the table runner as a trivet.

I had so much fun making that when for her that I made one for myself.  My husband picked out the colors and they are Color Wheel Sushi Rolls from  Batik by Mirah.  All of the fabric  were bought at Quilt Country.

I had to cut the jelly rolls down to 2 inch strips. Then I folded half-inch heel on one edge and sub cut all of my colors into 3 inch rectangles. My husband helped by pressing the him down in the first step of of prepping the fabrics. After the fabrics were sub cut they had to be folded in half and again he helped with the pressing. And as you can see he had lots of good help

I did not take any pictures during the process but this is the finished table runner.

We never could get a picture that didn't look blurry in the middle I think it's just the colors all blending together.
