Precision Piecing quilt-along

I am joining QuiltShopGal  Precision Piecing quilt-along

This QAL allows you to work on one, or all mini blocks, designed by Hope (Hope’s Quilt Designs) which you can download from Craftsy for free.

There are five mini blocks that finish 1.5 inches.  I started out with the hardest one, the Rolling Stone Mini Block

I only made one of these and was not happy with the results.  There are 29 pieces in this tiny block.

I made a tiny quilt that is 7x7.  I did not notice until I had it bound that I had made an error.  Oh, Well! 

This was a fun challenge.  I see several chances to improve on my Precision Piecing!

Charlotte 

I finishes Charlotte Last Friday.  

I did not get her until the 15th,  I had to call the Chickadee  to get it shipped. I have already called them about March.  If it is not here by Saturday, I will be calling them again. I am not sure what is happening in their shipping department, but I really expected to get the next months Lady before the end of the current month.  Maybe I am mistaken, but that is the way most BOM's work. 

I am going to try a different stabilized on the next one.  This month, it pulled away from the fabric and then shrank when I pressed her just like last month. Slow learner! However, they do look rather frumpy with the wrinkles they get when pressed. 

I have ordered hot fix nail heads or studs for buttons for the Ladies.

I usually have to finish a quilt before starting something else.  That said, I have at least 5 in progress   that are all within completion range.

We did  Farm Girl as a BOM at the local store. We finished up last spring, but I was busy helping a friend down size and move.  That took up 6 months of time and then I was so tired of fabric, kits, patterns and books that I could not get my head back into sewing. Since I love miniature quilts,  every month of Farm Girl, I made mini blocks.  We had a 12 inch and a two 6 inch blocks every month, so I turned them into 6 and 3 inch blocks.  I had to draft paper piecing for the 3 inch blocks!  This week I made 8 more blocks and today I am going to lay out both sizes and see how they will fit together. (1 and 2 of 5) .

I have a Jelly Roll Race quilt that my group did in January that I am prepping the back for so my husband can get it on the frame to quilt.   Yes, he is my quilter.   This is number 3 of 6.

 The 4th started project is a Texas quilt.  I have three blocks left on this one.  I will have to hire the quilting out on this one because it will not fit our frame.  The state seal block is digitized and ready to stitch out.  The lower tip of Texas is prepped and ready to top stitch.  That leaves the lower corner flowers.  That is next up.

 Number 5  is the Jim Shore Seasonal Cats.  I finished the top late last year but has not made the back.  It is a pieced back from the left over fabrics.  These were designed to be either a large quilt of twelve Mini quilts.  If you made the large quilt, you used the fat quarter meant for the back of the mini to piece the large back.

Ernestine

I have finished Ernestine except for her buttons.  I will add those after I have quilted the quilt.

When I was pressing her tonight, the backing Pellon came loose and gunked up the iron.  I did not notice it when I turned the fabric over to press on the right side.  It left a brown stain on the upper right corner.  I used Grand Ma's stain remover and it did not remove it.  When I rinsed that out, the backing turned loose completely, so I trimmed it off.  I then dabbed a little bleach on it  and rinsed it again. I cleaned the iron and pressed the unaffected areas to dry it.  Up close I can still see some of the stain.  I will let it dry over night and see how it looks.


I have not received block 2.  I guess I will have to call Chickadee tomorrow.  I am ready to get started on the next one.  


Today my hand stitching or slow stitching group, The Knotty Ladies, had a modified Jelly Roll Race.  When we got to the meeting place, Bernina of Plano, most of us had our strips sewn together.  Several of joined the strips with a triangle, some squares. One lady did hers end to end and she did not have any prep work done.  We started at 10 and every one was finished by 2.  If it has been a race starting at the stage we were at upon arrival, I would have won the race!

I used a brown Grunge with a Batik jelly roll. I will use the brown Grunge for an inner border but have not selected an outer border.   The lady sitting next to me, kept unplugging my machine or un-threading it to slow me down!

I was helping the lady that had not sewn her strips together keep her first set of two strips from twisting and ended up in a mess.

 

That is the sewing machine cord through the loop.   I had to unplug her machine to get it fixed.
