Sweet Kirby

Kirby is 12 and has had diabetes for several years. We boarded him over Thanksgiving at the vet so they could keep up his meds. We became aware on Wednesday that something was not right. Over the next two day it became clear that he was having problems seeing and walking. He went into our tiny bathroom and could not find his way out. He attempted to get on the bed and fell over, laying there trembling. He's not eating much but is drinking a lot. He is not grooming himself. He is at the beginning of kidney failure. Many of you have been here. You know what is coming . . Three new meds and fluids three times a week. He is blind. We can deal with the meds and fluids and not moving anything in the house. He is able to navigate the house for now. Max and Angel both knew something was wrong. They have smelled him and followed him around . At meal time, Max goes and gets him and basically leads him to the kitchen. Now it is in our hands. We failed giving fluids to Wizard and Mac. Do we want to attempt it again? Is it fair to him to leave him in the dark? Are we really improving his quality of life? What is best for him, not us? He will come home tonight so we can love on him and say goodbye ,. my sewing buddy

  1. We are so sorry to read this. Most of our cats are about the same age (10-12) and since Feb 1 2020 six have died. Two of cancer (probably) one of CKD, one wth a liver tumor, one of a heart condition, one of a saddle thrombus. It is so hard to know when it is up to you tolet them go. When my 19 year old calico Buddy was dying of CKD in 2016 I asked an animal communicator (who is no longer available) to talk to her, and he said she was ready to go on to her next adventure. It didn't help me miss her any less, but it gave me a bit of a different way to look at it from the cat's perspective. Purrs and prayers to you and Kirby and all the others (who are helping and patient in their own way obviously.)

  12. Kirby, though we didn't know you we send our purrs and wishes to your family. It is so hard when one leaves for the Rainbow Bridge on those left with such sweet memories of you. Eventually we'll all meet again and until then we have precious memories.

  18. I read on the Cat Blogosphere site that your Kirby passed away on December 4th. My Tucker also died that day. Like Kirby, he was diabetic and suffering renal failure. His luck was a little better than Kirby's in that he did well for some time. But then came cancer. Kirby and Tucker's situations sound much alike, and I am experiencing right now the sorrow you are feeling. I wanted to tell you how sorry I am that Kirby had to go; it is unfair and unkind, but you are not, and released Kirby so he could be healthy once more. Godspeed, Kirby, and God bless you all.
