August NewFO party

August NewFO Linky Party and Giveaway

2014 NewFO Challenge

It is time to Join the fun at Cat Patches with my new projects for August.  It is not necessary to finish a project, just start.

I spent some time with friends finishing up the Texas Row by Row experience.  We did make it to 40 shops and I added one when I went to El Paso to visit in July.
I picked up a pattern and kit for a ten Minute Table Runner from Minding My P's & Q's in Denton Texas..  It literately took 10 minutes. I love table runners especially easy ones, even though I do not have a table to display them on.

That's Max showing it off, just before he laid down on it!

While I drove to the shops one of my friends did handwork, working on hexies.
I remembered this flower kit I had purchased at Quilt Asylum in McKinney, Texas.
Texas Wild Flower Mix  (set 1) from The Caffeinated Quilter. So I have been learning English Paper Piecing.  All are ready for the stems, except the Bluebonnets, which I have not started.  Of course I had to pick something to learn on that is tiny, 1/2 inch papers! Now off to find set 2!

While we were in a shop, we all had to visit the ladies room.  Quilt shop always decorate the ladies room with cute quilts.   I told my friend, Susi, to be sure and notice this one. It was a Sunbonnet Sue. She came out and said I would love to have one like that.  I heard someone say, 'I will make you one for your birthday in September'.  I looked around and realized I had said that, not in my head, but out loud!  What had I set myself up for! I spoke to the shop owner and her mother who maid it.  They let me make photos and gave me permission to copy it. There was no pattern, so I had to work from the photo.   I picked out colors that she likes and got started.
I have a Silhouette Cameo cutter so I created files to cut the 12 girls.  Then I digitized the applique and made several practice pieces before I was happy.    I finished the top last week and  took it to my Bernina shop to get backing.  Another friend that works there, also named Sue, fell in love with it and said if Susi did not want it, she would take it!

This is the first one I made.  It is ready to give for Susi' birthday in two weeks.

This is the second one I finished last night.  If I had backing, it would have been finished, also.

When I get bored, I get crazy.  This one has 1/2 inch finished squares.   Over all size is 8 inches. It needs to be bound. I have learned a way to bind miniature quilts using a flat felled foot (Bernina 71).  Of course I do not have one so had to order it!

I would really love to win this months pin. !!!!

That is it for August.  It is hard to believe Summer it over and school has started.  WE still have temps in the upper 90's!

  4. I can't imagine going to 40 different quilt shops. That must have been fun. Your Sunbonnet Sue quilt is adorable and I'm impressed you digitized the design yourself.
